Features of Bukit Batok Town Master Plan
In order to have a better grasp of the development of Bukit Batok, you should study the master plan of the town first. This plan is based on the Bukit Batok Town Master Plan, a comprehensive urban development master plan that will allow the town to grow into a self-sufficient, liveable community. The master plan is composed of four components:
The master plan highlights government plans for the estate’s future, including the opening of a new shopping mall and community club. This is a long-term project, so developers are investing in it. Moreover, the master plan will provide for the construction of HDB flats, which could provide future residents the convenience of a shopping mall. This master plan also outlines plans for a new aged care home, which is already open.
The Bukit Batok Town Park is a major recreational facility. Located between Bukit Batok East Avenue 6 and Bukit Batok West Avenue, the park connects Bukit Batok Nature Park, Little Guilin Nature Park, and Jurong Park Connector. The Jurong Park Connector provides access to the Jurong Lake Gardens, one of Singapore’s largest manmade wetlands. To make Bukit Batok even more livable, the town plan incorporates a number of public spaces.
ECs are not the ideal option for long-term residence, but they are an affordable alternative. These units are conveniently located, close to MRT stations, schools, and shopping malls. The convenience of ECs makes it a perfect family-friendly neighborhood for the entire family. And while ECs are not a great option for young families, the neighbourhood is a great option for retirees. It also provides great access to public transport, which eliminates traffic and allows residents to take advantage of other benefits of the neighbourhood.
The Bukit Batok Town Council will focus on neighbourhood renewal. The town will introduce a neighbourhood renewal programme that includes a sheltered basketball court, upgraded play grounds, new ramps for wheelchair accessibility, and covered linkways. Residents can also expect new entertainment facilities and area yards. And in the coming five years, the LTA will embark on the Walk2Ride programme, which will provide sheltered pathways around transport nodes.
In addition to the EC, the new Downtown Line will include two MRT stations at Ten Mile Junction and Hillview. These new stations will improve connectivity in north-western Singapore and cut travel time by 30%. The master plan will also see the implementation of road infrastructure and improvements to public transportation. Two new Downtown Line 2 MRT stations are expected to be ready by mid-2016. This will make travel in Bukit Batok much easier.
The Bukit Batok Town Master Plan includes a development called West Plains. It consists of 10 blocks and contains 1,962 units. The buildings are 16 to 19 storeys tall, and are expected to be TOP’d in early 2020. The design features an interesting colour palette, with a brown-and-almond base and a mustard/velvet-illustration. The plan also takes into account the existing HDB cluster in Tengah.
