Ura Gazettes Master Plan 2025 Following Public Engagement Exercise

Master Plan 2025 Set to Shape Singapore’s Urban Future

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has announced the formal gazetting of the Master Plan 2025, marking a significant milestone in Singapore’s urban planning landscape. This strategic blueprint is poised to drive the city-state’s development for the next decade and beyond, following extensive public consultations that spanned two years.

Over the course of the public engagement phase, the Draft Master Plan 2025 was displayed at the URA Centre and various locations across Singapore, drawing close to a quarter-million visitors. This broad-based involvement underscores the community’s vested interest in the nation’s developmental trajectory.

With the Master Plan now officially in place, relevant government agencies will commence the implementation of various developmental proposals outlined in the document. One of the focal points of the plan includes significant transformations at Bukit Timah Turf City, which is slated to evolve into a vibrant new residential area. Notably, a prime residential site here was recently acquired by a consortium involving Frasers Property, Sekisui House, and CSC Land for a substantial sum, indicating strong market interest and potential for the area.

In addition to Bukit Timah, the plan also earmarks the former Singapore Racecourse in Kranji for redevelopment into a housing estate. This initiative reflects a broader strategy to enhance the northern regions of Singapore, particularly with synergies expected from the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System and the growth of Woodlands Regional Centre.

For those interested in the evolution of Singapore’s residential landscape, the Singapore Condo project offers a comprehensive insight into the latest condominium developments coinciding with these new urban plans.

Furthermore, urban liveability and resilience are central themes of the Master Plan 2025, as noted by Eugene Lim, a key executive officer at ERA Singapore. He highlights the transformative potential of the developments at Bukit Timah and Kranji, not only in terms of housing but also in their capacity to bolster regional economic growth and urban quality of life.

The Master Plan also includes initiatives to increase recreational and community spaces by optimizing underutilized areas such as spaces under viaducts and rooftops of multi-storey car parks. Moreover, URA plans to enhance Marina Bay with interim sports facilities and launch a new community node along the Rail Corridor, with construction expected to start next year.

Expanding Urban Capabilities and Community Engagement

The adoption of Master Plan 2025 is a clear indicator of Singapore’s forward-thinking approach to urban planning. By integrating public feedback with strategic development, the plan not only addresses immediate needs but also ensures the sustainability and resilience of urban growth for future generations.
